History

The European Conference on Information Retrieval (ECIR) is Europe's premier forum for presenting new research in the field of Information Retrieval (IR). Established in 1978 as the Annual Colloquium on Information Retrieval Research, it was initially held exclusively in the UK. In 1998, the conference expanded to continental Europe, with Grenoble, France, hosting that year's event. Since then, ECIR has alternated between the UK and various European locations, reflecting its growing international significance.
